How do you make waiting in a finance office fun?
Client: Cat Mountain
Year: 2023

Cat Mountain knows that there's nothing more boring for a child than waiting in a finance office for Mum & Dad finalise paperwork on their loan.

I was approached by Pete to come up with an idea for an activity book to entertain the kids instead of pestering their parents. His initial ideas for the book were pictures of the things he finances (cars, trucks, jet skis, etc) and had concerns that this imagery isn't the most universally enjoyed by children.

Remembering that I had recently made some portraits of the Cat Mountain crew for their socials, one team member stood out amongst the rest.

And thus Hank's Adventure Up Cat Mountain was born! The concept was to create an activity, colouring in, comic, puzzle book hybrid in an attempt to appeal to kids of varying ages.

The story follows Hank the dog with each set of pages having a drawing of Hank to colour in and a puzzle to solve. The puzzle relates to the colouring in page and is also guides Hank to next the step on his journey.

Pete and I brainstormed different ideas for puzzles and I took those away and drew up a rough guide of the pages and how they would flow with one another for Pete's approval.

Once the concepts were approved, it was refining time.

Final versions were drawn and given to my nieces to test and make sure the puzzles weren't too difficult or too easy either. After some minor tweaking and adding an answer key, the book was ready to be sent to Pete for final approval and printing.

The book was a hit, so much so that even some of the parents found themselves taking a copy to complete at home.
